New Princess Cruises Wine Menu – With a KC Connection

by | Dec 24, 2018 | Alaska, Mexico/Caribbean, Ocean Cruises | 0 comments

Kansas City-based wine expert Doug Frost collaborated with Princess Cruises on a fantastic update to its wine program. Frost is one of only four people in the world to have attained the ranks of both Master of Wine and Master Sommelier. The new wine menu adds nearly 50% more selections. The wine list is the largest in Princess Cruises’ history, offering 142 selections.

Frost and the Princess beverage team developed the new list around a philosophy centering on exploration, discovery, and enrichment. And they didn’t forget affordability while focusing on quality and global diversity. Thirty percent of the new wine list is priced at $39 and under. Two-thirds of the list is priced at $49 or less. Perhaps most importantly, Frost has a truly special gift for describing wines in ways that make them accessible to non-experts. As a result, more choices are made more accessible to more people, rather than being intimidating or confusing.

“Princess guests have a passion for culinary travel so our goal in creating this new wine menu was to find fascinating wines from some of the memorable destinations Princess visits,” said Frost. “This way guests can return from shore and still experience local tastes with exciting wines at all price points. Plus, what better way to celebrate any occasion than with a special bottle of wine that can be shared with friends and loved ones on a cruise.”

New list features expanded diversity

Princess’ new wine list offers greater international and varietal diversity than ever before. It features 56% more selections from around the world, and 42% more grape varietals than the previous list. The update blends newly-popular selections, like Ao Yun Cabernet Sauvignon from China, with elite standbys like Lafite, Petrus, Grange, Masseto and others. The complete list is available for download from Princess. In addition to designating particular wines of unique quality and/or value as “Princess Recommended,” the list assists guests in making socially-conscious choices as well. Wines are designated as “Biodynamic,” “Organic,” and/or “Vegan,” as appropriate.

Guests who purchase a Premier Beverage Package receive a 25% discount off bottles of wine in the main dining room. More details about the Premier Beverage Package are available from Princess Cruises here.

More updates to the Princess adult beverages program

The new wine menu is just the first step of a major reinvention of the Princess Cruises adult beverage program. Princes is also rolling out six new beverage menus at The Sanctuary, Pool Deck, Wheelhouse Bar, Crooners and Explorer’s Lounge, as well as a general menu offering 13 drinks created by Master Mixologist Rob Floyd. Guests can enjoy 20 new high-end and exotic spirits, some of which reflect the cruise line’s exotic destinations, and 17 new international and craft beers, as well as 39 new wines by the glass, also inspired by the cruise line’s itineraries.
